This chapter describes how to prepare an OpenVMS environment for GT.M and reviews the actions to take after the VMSINSTAL portion of the installation. GT.M is designed to take advantage of many features of the OpenVMS environment, so careful tuning of OpenVMS can yield significant benefits.

This chapter presents aspects of your OpenVMS environment that are particularly relevant as you prepare to integrate GT.M. The information provided is not intended to be an exhaustive treatment of these topics, but rather an overview to use with the OpenVMS documentation.

If you are installing GT.M for evaluation, you may be able to defer most or all of the actions in this chapter. Without these actions, most functions of GT.M will work, although not optimally. Because understanding these actions could aid your evaluation, you should read this chapter for background information.

The parameters in this chapter are needed for basic GT.M development. For large scale development and production use, Fidelity recommends that you conduct a sign-on exercise to determine appropriate VMS timing parameters.
